This suggests that to understand the relationships between pro-social motivation, employment sector, and job satisfaction, future studies could fruitfully consider incorporating other types of pro-social motivation such as user orientation. The PSM–job satisfaction association does not differ significantly between the private and public sector, while the user orientation–job satisfaction association is strongest for private employees. Using data from a survey of Danish employees (n = 2,811), we generally find positive relationships between the two types of pro-social motivation and job satisfaction, but the strength of the associations vary between occupations. This study tests whether job satisfaction is associated with PSM and user orientation, and whether these associations differ between public and private employees. Second, the relationship between job satisfaction and these two types of pro-social motivation, PSM and user orientation, may also be found in the private sector. First, not only PSM but also pro-social motivation directed towards helping specific others (called user orientation) may affect job satisfaction. Public service motivation (PSM) has been shown to be positively related to job satisfaction in the public sector, but there are two gaps in the literature. They conclude the chapter with key learned lessons and policy implications. The chapter suggests that community wireless networks should be fostered by governments and the European Union in order for them to function as true alternatives to conventional ISPs, particularly in the last mile. In addition, these projects broaden the public sphere, create opportunities for civic engagement, and transfer knowledge among community members. The findings show that these ad hoc initiatives are forcing local incumbent ISPs to lower prices and alter terms of service agreements. The authors use data from action research and interviews with leaders and participants of six successful community Wi-Fi networks in Europe. This chapter provides an understanding of both the strengths and weaknesses of these initiatives. In other words, these grassroots Wi-Fi networks mobilize human, technical, and financial resources to create sustainable alternatives to telephone and cable companies. Sizewise rentals in st petersburg software#These networks have identified and implemented innovative strategies for providing connectivity-encompassing aspects ranging from software development to infrastructure design and skills training. In underserved regions, CWNs are even surfacing as the principal Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Grassroots groups in a number of European countries are building Community Wireless Networks (CWN) on small budgets. Originality/value – The paper offers insights into the choice between owning and leasing in the Swedish public sector. Practical implications – The results also indicate that moving from owning to leasing can reduce flexibility and that it is very important for careful analyses about the pros and cons in specific situations. Research limitations/implications – The result is based on a rather small number of case studies and this limits the possibility to generalise the results. In other cases, the excess supply of capital and the need to strengthen the balance sheet seems to have been more important. Findings – The research shows that there have been a number of “rational” reasons for moving from owning to leasing: primarily better risk allocation and more efficient management of complex properties with both public and private tenants. Design/methodology/approach – The empirical results presented are primarily based on a number of case studies. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of a number of studies about owning vs leasing in the Swedish public sector and relate this to more general determinants of the choice between owning and leasing.
